Zambia introduced free education in January 2022. Prior to this policy, secondary education in Zambia was not free, and students who faced financial barriers dropped out of high school. The implementation of free education has led to a significant increase in enrollment, including adults returning to complete their schooling. While this policy is transformative, it has created new challenges.

Many children who previously dropped out of school have returned as adults to complete their education, resulting in classrooms where 15-year-olds and 23-year-olds sit side by side. This diverse age range highlights the urgent need for a self-paced learning solution. Our initiative addresses this challenge and is scalable to a national level. We combine this with the necessary hardware facilities and an incentive program to motivate students to work hard, demonstrate grit, and achieve mastery through the Khan Academy platform. Using a data-driven approach, we measure each student’s progress and integrate an incentive-based funding model to reward effort and talent, empowering students to shape their futures.

By sponsoring a student, you fund access to these resources and get access to a cultural exchange, gaining insight into their lives and experiences through video messages sent by the student to you or your child. This initiative not only tackles Zambia’s education crisis but also creates a pathway for global engagement and mutual understanding.

Part of each donation is pooled to fund an incentive program that is distributed using Khan Academy Data into two scholarships:

"Excellence Ranking" for Top Performing students who excel academically and

"Resilience Ranking” for students who demonstrate Grit and unwavering determination despite challenges

This performance-based distribution incentivizes hard work, persistence, and mastery of skills, ensuring that students are recognized for their efforts and progress.

Our Story

We began with a vision in to provide the best education tools to underserved communities in Zambia. Starting with Kakolo School in August 2024 we installed Starlink, solar power and provided smartphones to introduce Khan Academy and AI, enabling students to access global knowledge and world class resources. By the end of the year over 270 students logged into Khan academy and used Chat GPT for the first time.

We have established a proven model for deploying Starlink, solar power, and solar-powered smartphones in even the most remote areas, equipping learners with the latest e-learning tools. In 2025 we are working to scale our offering. This approach is both scalable and sustainable, reflecting our unwavering belief that every child deserves a chance to prove themselves no matter their location.
